Recently crowned as Miss Vietnam USA 2017, Los Angeles-based actress, model, host Isabelle Du couldn't be more proud of her Vietnamese heritage and her Asian American identity.
Born and raised in San Jose, California, she moved to Orange County to attend Chapman University. Isabelle got her first taste of being in a magazine when her rant and selfie (before the word "selfie" even existed) got into JANE Magazine. This led her to write in about her experience as an Asian American for a cover model search where she eventually won as the Face of East West and landed the cover of East West Magazine.
Shortly after, she booked a Wet Seal campaign and appeared as Jay Manuel’s model on the Tyra Banks Show. She would fit photo shoots when she could and had purposely scheduled her classes back-to-back, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 AM to 10 PM with lunch as her only break. She spent Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays commuting 2 hours to and back from Los Angeles for internships at companies such as Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV’s Parental Control and E!s True Hollywood Story.
Upon graduation, with a BA in Public Relations and Advertising in hand and job offers on the table, Isabelle decided that she’d hold off on your typical 9-5 to pursue modeling and jet set the world instead. She spent 4 years living abroad in Asia and has now worked in countries such as Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Argentina and even her motherland, Vietnam, where she spent the majority of her time. Isabelle has worked with clients such as Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Tresemme, Logitech, Mossimo, Elle, FHM, Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Gadget Magazine.
Isabelle has worn all kinds of hats, both in front and behind the camera. These included being FashionTV Vietnam’s host, a scuba diving stunt double, voiceover talent, and managing female Vietnamese rap artist Suboi.
She segued into acting with her 40-episode soap opera debut Nữ Vệ Sĩ (Female Bodyguard), still currently airing in Vietnam. She was the first Vietnamese contestant ever on both the third season of Singapore-based model competition reality show SUPERMODELME as well as the Miss Multiverse competition -- coincidentally placing top 7 in both.
Now back in her native California and based in Los Angeles, you can find Isabelle Du as a series regular model for the last 5 seasons on the Critic's Choice Award winner Syfy's Face Off. Isabelle has also raced around the world with her then-boyfriend-now-fiance Dennis Hour on CBS's Emmy Award winning show The Amazing Race (Season 25) and were known to fans as #TheDatingCouple.
Although Asians and Asian Americans are underrepresented, she continues to pursue the entertainment industry as a strong advocate for diversity in the mainstream media. The countless rejections and criticisms received throughout her career has given her thick skin. She truly believes that with hard work, perseverance, and a positive mentality, it’s possible to make anything happen.
